Choose the Best Social Media For You

By Adam  |  8 Aug 2015 22:00:00

There are a lot of social media services on the internet and pretty much all of them can be used for marketing. Off the top of my head, there's: Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Vine, Tumblr, YouTube, Pinterest, LinkedIn and I'll stop there because otherwise I'll turn this blog post into a list of social media outlets! So many to use and each potentially bringing you to new customers. Managing them all will mean that your social media marketing is going to take up a lot of time. But the thing is, you don't need to use all of them.

You definitely need to do some social media marketing, and the main two for that are Facebook and Twitter, but after them, whatever you use is entirely down to you. If you want to use any more, make your decision based on your skillset (or the skillset of your marketer) and the 'tone' of your business. Vine is used for creating funny six second videos; can you imagine yourself doing that? Instagram is much more about sharing photographs; will you have good photos to share? LinkedIn is the most professional of social media sites; would you be able to produce good content to fit its tone? These are all things that you need to ask yourself and which will help you to make a decision about which social media platform is for you.

If you used loads and loads of social media platforms, are you really going to have time to properly maintain them all? Social media feeds need to be constantly updated and you need to keep checking them for people who are commenting. If you've got a lot of them, it's going to be hard to keep on top of them all and it's quite likely that they'll all end up being maintained at a subpar level. So keep your social media usage to four different platforms at most. Start with just one and then ease your way into others.

Hopefully that's given you some good ideas for what you'd like to use for social media marketing. If you're not on any social media yet, you should get on it ASAP.
