Apple Working on a Search Engine?

By Adam  |  8 Feb 2016 12:00:00

Everybody knows that Google is the giant in the internet arena. Almost everybody uses Google as their default search engine and even if you combined the number of people using other search engines it still would not come close to the high number of Google searchers. Then, of course, there's the fact that they offer loads of other features (like Google Translate and Google Web Master Tools) which really help to strengthen Google's reputation. Any business that has some reliance on the internet will be at the mercy of Google's policies and algorithms. But Google may soon have a rival in the form of Apple, who are seemingly working on their own search engine.

If Apple were to launch a search engine, they might be one of the only businesses who could face Google. Very recently, Google paid Apple a billion dollars so that Google could be the default search engine on Apple smartphones. This shows that Google obviously consider that they'd have a lot to lose if they were ever to lose that; which makes sense. More and more people are doing the majority of their internet browsing on smartphones these days and Apple is one of the biggest names in the smartphone world. How many people would Google lose if, all of a sudden, Apple devices all had their own search engine? It's certainly something to think about.

Ultimately, though Google may see some losses if and when an Apple search engine is launched, but they'd still be able to continue and would still be an absolutely enormous business. What's also important to remember is that people who mainly use laptops or desktop computers for their browsing will be much less affected. Sure, Apple could push it on Apple computers but barely anybody is going to be using it on a Windows computer. Then there's also Windows phones and smartphones made by other businesses which also will likely not have people using an Apple search engine on them. None the less, this is an intriguing piece of news and it will be interesting to see how this plays out.
