How To Avoid Telemarketing Calls

By Adam  |  14 Sep 2015 08:00:00

Telesales can be an extremely useful tool for marketing. There could be a product or service which could really help to boost your business but which you didn't know existed, only for you to have a call and be made aware of it. It can be great for customers and it can be great for businesses too. If you call fifty people a day, you'll doubtlessly find several new customers throughout the week. As such, you can see why so many places make use of this strategy and so many people are aware of it.

Nonetheless, there are times when telemarketing calls will not be wanted or needed. Maybe you've been called about a product which will be of absolutely no use to you (like compost supplies, if you sell electronic devices) or perhaps your budget for the year will be just about used up and you've got no room for additional expenses. Either way, there are lots of reasons that a telesales call might be unwanted. Of course, you don't want to be rude to telesales people because they're only doing their job and that would be rather inconsiderate of you but you do want to tell them that you are not interested. However, I can see why you might find yourself unable to say no; maybe the person's really nice or your just plain don't like to be contrary. What can you to do avoid paying for something you don’t want?

Well, what you might like to do is get yourself a special phone especially for telemarketing calls. Then, when somebody calls you, you can then say "I'll put you through to the person who makes these decisions" and then, of course, nobody will answer because that phone is set up especially to have telesales calls redirected to it! It's a good plan for any telesales calls you don't want to receive. Having said that, I don't think you should universally ignore telesales calls, because you never know just when one might turn out to be extremely useful! It's good to keep an open mind when it comes to business, and so you should give telesales calls a chance... But when you know you can't afford to, or the product is clearly useless to you, you might like to try using this plan. New businesses especially, will get a lot of telesales calls, and this is when you're probably not going to have as much money to spare so I hope this will be useful to you.
