Proofreading Advice

Content marketing is a great way to drive sales on your eCommerce website. If you've got a regularly updated blog full of content which will be interesting to your customers, then they are likely to keep coming back to see what you write next. Each time a customer returns to your website to read the latest blog post, they have a chance of spotting a good bargain for sale, or seeing something they really want and making a purchase. Furthermore, when a potential customer is using Google to search for the things that interest them, if you have these subjects covered on your blog, that will encourage them to buy from you. It may not have an immediate effect, but it is definitely worth it in the long run.

 

But one thing you need to be careful of is making sure that your blog posts are as error free as possible. One thing I must warn you: typos and mistakes can never be avoided 100% of the time because when there are books being released by hugely successful publishers and they still have the odd typo, you don't really have much chance of doing a better job. Having said that, you could reasonably hope to eliminate all mistakes 99.9% of the time, and I am just going to use this blog post to provide some general advice for doing so. A good idea is to make sure you read through things three times; first, read it as soon as you have written it and fix any mistakes that you come across as you do so. Second, read it again once all the edits of the first draft are done; it's good to do this because then you can be really sure you got everything and also because it is sometimes possible to create a new mistake by fixing something somewhere else. The third read through should actually be carried out by somebody other than yourself; as you are the author of the piece, you know what you intended to write and sometimes this means that you are more likely to miss an error. Think of the other person reading it as a 'test audience' and, once you've done that, you've basically done all you can to ensure that your content is well proofread!

 

So if you are doing content marketing, or are planning to, I hope this will be a good piece of advice. Though typos are ultimately insignificant, a lot of people react very negatively to them, so you should try hard to remove them just in case somebody came to your website and then was put off of making a purchase because of one.
