Social Media Sweepstakes

This is certainly not the first time I've written that social media marketing is very important for every internet business and it most likely will not be the last either. It is baffling how many businesses there are online which have no social media presence. So if you've got your own eCommerce website, but are not on social media, then I would heavily suggest that you open up your feeds soon. I'm going to use this blog post to take you over one specific example of social media marketing: sweepstakes.

 

Are you familiar with the concept of sweepstakes? If not, here is a concise explanation: sweepstakes are a kind of contest which are commonly run by businesses. The contests are free to enter and the prize is usually something quite valuable. Sometimes people just click a button to enter, other times they have to answer a question correctly before they are in with a chance to win. It's the kind of thing that a lot of people enjoy and something which can be very useful for social media marketing.

 

Imagine you wrote a tweet that said "Let us know if you're more of a summer or winter person; one of you will get a prize! #sweepstakes" it’s quite vague, but it would still work. All of your existing customers who see it are likely to respond because they like the idea of getting something for free. They're then likely to retweet it as well and to send it to their close friends. Then the people that they send it to are likely to do the same and word of your sweepstake (and therefore your business) will branch out like that. Getting stuff for free gets people excited and, as I said, that example I listed is quite vague; if you can mention a specific product that many people will want, you stand to reach even more potential customers.

 

You might think that giving something away, especially an expensive product, would be an unwise decision, but think of that as the price you're paying to reach lots of new people, a good deal of whom will keep you in mind as a business they're interested in. In fact, some people are likely to keep returning just because of the idea of more sweepstakes. Then, maybe, they’ll realise you have products which they'd actually like to buy... As you can see, this stands to make a lot of people more familiar with your business and to bring you new customers.
