Watermarking Your Images

By Adam  |  6 May 2016 12:00:00

The internet is a big place and, sadly, that means that there are some people out there who cannot be trusted. There will always be scammers who want to steal images for spamming purposes and as the owner of an eCommerce business, you want to avoid that happening. If somebody was using one of your images for spam and a customer saw that, it might lead them to believe that you were somehow involved in that spam. To avoid people using your images, you might want to try watermarking them, because when an image is watermarked it's obvious any time somebody takes it and uses it for something else.

For those who aren't familiar with the term, allow me to quickly explain what watermarking is: when you see an image which has the owner's name (be it the name of an individual or a business) written transparently in one of the corners of the image. This doesn't obstruct the image, but it makes it clear who it belongs to and is very difficult to remove. A lot of people might think that that's something which would be pretty difficult, but actually, there's lots of easy to use software out there which you can use for all your watermarking needs. One example is Water Marquee, but there are actually loads of places to turn if you need this done.

So if you want to protect your images from being stolen, be sure to watermark them! It's always worth taking as many security measures as possible when you run an eCommerce website, because you want to be protected from any and all eventualities. So I hope this has given you a good idea of what you can do to protect your images from theft. But if you don't even have an eCommerce website yet, then sign up to Sellr now and get started for no cost at all!
