Why Sellr Is Better Than Magento

By Simon  |  1 Dec 2017 20:00:00

If you have been looking into building a new ecommerce website for your business, you will not have escaped the mention of Magento, mostly from web design individuals or companies.

Firstly there is a simple reason for this. It's nothing to do with the features in Magento, ease of installation or suitability for your business. It's the simple fact that the web designer can obtain Magento for free, and then charge you thousands to set it up for you. Magento provides a great business model for web designers and for this reason, it's always going to be promoted.

However there are a few issues with Magento.

Firstly, it's an open source system which is used by hundreds of thousands of websites. This makes it a huge target for hackers and exploits. Not only can they develop an attack which will affect thousands of sites, they can even see the source code they need to circumvent to do it. The solution is to constantly apply patches and updates to Magento, some of which get very complex and require skill to do. Great for the web designers, but not so good for the Merchant, who will have to keep paying for this.

A SaaS system such as Sellr is always updated without the merchant having to deal with any third parties. With a system like Sellr, the merchant can be assured that they are only going to be dealing with the developers of the system, not anyone in between.

With Magento you have to purchase expensive 'extensions' to do often the most basic of functionality. Postcode lookups for addresses, linking to payment gateways, marketing features and anything else which is not in the most basic of feature sets.

With Sellr, it's all in there right from the start at no added cost. We don't complicate things with 'Extensions' or 'Apps' In fact we don't compare ourselves to the competition at all. Instead we are constantly working to provide the functionality a merchant might want to use right out of the box, with no extra work or payment required.

Support is a huge issue with Magento. Typically you'll end up paying the web designers who set it up for you to provide ongoing support. However, they didn't write Magento so again they are simply a go-between between the merchant and the developers of Magento. Except that it is unlikely they will have any contact with the developers, and in fact are more likely to be getting their information from random web forums.

With a system like Sellr - we monitor all our systems 24/7. If there are any problems we'll fix them before you even notice. However if you do encounter a specific problem, you can talk to us about it and we'll tell you exactly how to resolve it. That's because we wrote the system and know everything there is to know about it.

Sellr is going from strength to strength particularly with Merchants who want their ecommerce sites to be put into really reliable hands. If you are looking for an ecommerce solution, why not give us a call on 01225 422200 and see what we can do for you.

It's worth noting that a big part of our job is converting Magento Sites to Sellr for merchants who have fallen into the situation above, but their web designers have not been able to provide the support that they need.

If you're already using Magento, but need to change, please do take a look at Sellr, as for starters you will be saving a lot of money and you'll get a better, more reliable service with expert ongoing support as standard.
