Common SEO Mistakes

If you want to be successful on the internet, there's one thing you're going to have to be good at whether you like it or not: SEO. Sure, some people might have successful websites without knowing anything about SEO, but they must still be doing good SEO, just without knowing about it. The problem with SEO is that there are a lot of common misconceptions floating around and in today's blog post I would like to take you over a few of the most common SEO mistakes that people make.

  • Keyword stuffing: Yes, it's good to include important keywords within any piece of content or copy, but repeating certain words and phrases over and over again to an unnatural extent will not benefit you in any way. In fact, keyword stuffing can be even be detrimental as search engine algorithms will then determine that you have poor content.

  • Directory listings: Don't get me wrong, being listed in a couple of high quality online directories is a good idea. What's not a good idea is making listings for your business in every single spammy directory on the internet.

  • Sape Links: This is when you covertly obtain a link on a very highly renowned site. Definitely not worth doing as it can get you into a lot of trouble.

  • Blog Comments: Spamming blog posts with comments that do nothing but link to your site in a way which is obviously spammy and unnatural will never work.

  • Forum Posting: A good, natural link to your site in a forum thread that is relevant is good - spamming forums with links is not good.

Those five things are probably five of the things which people do the most often without realising that they either will not benefit their site at all or that they will have a negative effect. Everybody knows that getting more links back to your site will help to increase rankings, but quite a few people fail to understand that you can't just go for any links.
