How to Buy a Domain From Google Domains
If you want to start up an eCommerce website, one thing you may well be thinking of doing is buying your own domain. While it is not essential to own your own domain, it is a good idea because it adds to your website's air of professionalism. A popular web hosting service is Google Domains and in this blog post I am going to talk about choosing your domain name and then buying it through Google Domains.
When you buy a domain, you need to make sure you get something which is completely unique. You might think of going for your name, because nobody else will have that, you might also think of picking a random phrase, because nobody will have that either. Unfortunately, those are not good choices: having a random phrase will make your website look unprofessional, as will using your name (though less so) and both of these choices are also bad for search engine optimisation: nobody is going to search for your name, or that random phrase, unless they already know about your business and you want to go for something which will hook in new people. For that same reason, you also should not go for your business name alone (though this is not too bad an idea). If your business was called Card Excited and you sold cardboard boxes, a good domain name would be www.CardExcitedCardboardBoxes.com. You should go for your business name followed by a word or two about the product or service you provide. That way anyone who is just searching for the product that you provide stands a chance of coming across you.
Anyway, when you're on Google Domains, this is what you need to do to make your purchase: first, just search for the domain you want in the search bar. A happy face next to the domain means it is available and you can have it, but a sad face next to the domain means it is unavailable. If it is unavailable, try changing the extension (like .net instead of .com) or, indeed, just changing a word in the main part of the domain name. It really is very simple: now you just have to click 'Proceed to Checkout', fill in your payment details with Google Wallet and then you're all done! The domain belongs to you.
You'll be able to use that domain for your Sellr store and I hope that it will prove to be a useful investment. If you don't have a Sellr store yet, sign up for Sellr now! It is completely free and just the thing you need to get an eCommerce business started.
