Understanding How Google Works

By Adam  |  30 May 2016 12:00:00

Anybody running an eCommerce website will be keen to optimise their site for search engines because good SEO can be the difference between getting lots of traffic and getting almost none. For most people, SEO should really be called GSEO because most people really main "Google search engine optimisation" as that is the search engine on which most internet searches are done. So for those hoping to gain a better understanding of Google, I'd like to draw your attention to Matt Cutts.

Matt Cutts used to be the head of web spam at Google and made lots of very informative blog posts and videos about how Google works - this sort of thing will be invaluable to anybody trying to rank highly. He covers quite a broad range of subjects, ranging from how the indexing system actually works (in general terms) to what things may be considered spam and what things will be considered worthy of a high ranking. Sadly, he is currently on unpaid leave from Google, so there has been very little from him since then, but the content he created while in the role is still useful to this day. Watching a few of his videos could help you to familiarise yourself with some of the concepts crucial to higher rankings.

So if that has whetted your appetite for useful information, here is a link to his blog and here is a link to a site which conveniently organises his videos for you. Since so much ground is covered, you're likely to find at least one post or video which will be beneficial to you specifically. Hopefully this will help you to take some steps towards enhancing your eCommerce website so that it can attract more traffic. But if you don't even have an eCommerce website yet, then sign up to Sellr now and get started for no cost at all!
