Use Google for Market Research

By Adam  |  20 Aug 2015 08:00:00

Whether you're already running an eCommerce business or if that's something you'd like to start doing in the near future, it could well be worth your time to do a quick Google search for your product. It doesn't need to be done over Google specifically but it would just be best to use Google due to the simple fact that that is the most commonly used search engine. So what does doing this achieve? Well there is actually quite a cove of information which will be available to you via this method and if you look around you may well find some ways to improve your own eCommerce website.

Firstly, take a look and see if your own website comes up; if you're on the front page then congratulations! Your website must be doing very well and I hope that it will remain in that position for some time. If it isn't, however, then take a look at some of the options which are. What's the first one? Take a look at it and keep your eyes peeled for the strengths that it has over your own website; maybe it has a regularly updated blog and nice clear social media buttons? Maybe they have a 'sale of the day' available? Perhaps they offer a complimentary product along with the main one or have a very nicely laid out website? Whatever they're doing, take notes! Obviously, you don't want your website to be a copy of theirs, but take some of their ideas and give them a unique spin for your own business, or look for the ways that your business is stronger than theirs and then do more to focus on those strengths.

The point is that, for your own business to excel, you need to be familiar with what it is that your rivals are doing. A little market research never hurt anyone and it might help you to realise that you've got a strength which you didn't even realise was that strong! So, if you have the time, take a few minutes to do a bit of research over Google, it might just help you to make your eCommerce website even better! But if you don't have your own eCommerce website yet, do your research and then sign up for Sellr for free to get started!
