Amazon Dash Buttons
It seems that you need only keep your eyes on Amazon if you want to see new, unexpected developments in the world of eCommerce and just recently they've come up with something new which nobody expected; Dash Buttons. Obviously, that name alone means nothing to you, so I shall explain the concept: these are literally, physical buttons which you can buy (not things to click on a computer screen) and, when you press them, that's an automatic order. So you might buy a toilet paper dash button and put it in your bathroom and when you think "Oh my, the toilet paper will only last a couple more days" you then press the button and an order is placed. You can get them for various kinds of foods too and several other household products.
Will it be the next big thing in eCommerce or something which just fizzles out and is forgotten? Time will tell, but it's an interesting development. This will doubtlessly be extremely useful for people who are unable to leave their homes and it's always nice to see businesses trying to accommodate more and more people. On the other hand, how many people will grow frustrated after accidental (or prank) presses? How often will these buttons go wrong meaning that somebody will press one and expect their items to be on the way, only to realise days later that they are not? It could go either way at this point, but it certainly has potential!
Of course, Amazon are mainly offering this on food and other products which people need to buy again and again on a regular basis and your own eCommerce website might not sell anything which people buy regularly like that. I'm not writing this blog post to say "you should be looking into your own dash buttons" but, rather, to keep you up to date with the broader eCommerce world. Perhaps, one day, everyone will use some version of dash buttons for almost everything and you'll easily be managing them through Sellr, but that day is not today.
