Customer Birthdays
On what day are people most likely to make eCommerce purchases? Well, there are lots of days that a customer might be more likely to make a purchase from an eCommerce website and one of those days is their birthday. One of the most commonly given gifts on a birthday is money and since people are not that likely to go to actual shops on their birthday (they probably have other plans) that means they might just head to an eCommerce website instead. When people order things for themselves on their birthday, it gives them something to look forward to after the birthday has passed.
So have you considered taking the birthdays of your customers when they purchase from your eCommerce website? Either during the sign up process (if you offer anything like that) or during the transaction process. Some people are a little protective of information like that and you could say that you are only asking because your customers need to be over eighteen or something like that. Of course, be careful though, because if you want to sell to people who are younger than 18 as well then you don't want to exclude them. If you just put it there as an optional field, a good number of people will probably fill it in anyway.
Once you have the customer's birthday, this then gives you the opportunity to do some special marketing. On the birthday you could send them a nice message telling them that you hope they have a good day as well as providing them with a voucher code. To save you a lot of time, you could pre-write the message and send it to every customer with the only change being their names. Being given this birthday present from your business will endear customers to you and they are most likely to use the voucher code right away, therefore encouraging sales. To prevent people from taking advantage of your generosity, you could just say that if a birthday date is changed, they will have to wait a whole year before they next get something, or even just disqualify them entirely; this will stop people from setting their birthday as the next day lots of times and claiming lots of codes.
I hope this gives you a good idea of one of the ways you can offer a very personalised form of marketing on your eCommerce website and that you will be able to use it to drive sales. But if you don't even have an eCommerce website yet, then sign up to Sellr now and get started for no cost at all!
