Facebook or Twitter for Business

Which is best? There's only one way to find out.

If you picked somebody at random and asked them which two social media networks were the best, they'd probably say Facebook and Twitter - almost everybody knows them! So if you were looking to do some social media marketing, it would be best to use these two sites. But what if you only had time to use one of them? If you're a small business, you might be running everything yourself and social media marketing takes time! It wouldn't be too much of a surprise if you only had time to go over one, so in today's blog post I am going to be comparing both of them to try and help you make a decision.


Facebook is the biggest social media network and so is the one which potentially gives you access to the most people. If you have a large list of friends on Facebook, you can start by getting all of them to "like" your business page and once they've done that, you can then potentially reach the friends of you friends and grow outward like that. Facebook is also great because you can easily share whatever kind of posts you like: short pieces of writing, long pieces of writing, photos, videos, links - whatever you want. Customers might enjoy browsing through all of the photos you have uploaded.

The problem with Facebook is that it is very much geared towards making you spend money. The reach of your business page will be unfairly reduced unless you pay Facebook to "boost" your post. This can make things especially difficult for businesses who do not have much of a marketing budget.


Twitter is used by millions of people and you can use relevant hashtags (e.g. #flashsale) to try and reach as many people as possible. People like to look through specific hashtags, so using them well will really help to increase the reach of your posts. What's more is that Twitter is very open and you are able to interact directly with almost anybody when using your business's Twitter account. This is a great way to reach people as marketing that personal can often be very effective.

The problem with Twitter is that its popularity is in decline and it is losing users all the time. It might not be around for as long as Facebook will. There's also the fact that they have a very restrictive character limit, which makes it hard to say what you want to say, at times.
