Making a Work Routine

By Adam  |  28 Aug 2015 08:00:00

Like most people who start a business, there's a good chance that you are managing your eCommerce website on the side while dedicating most of your time to some full time employment. This is quite an intelligent approach as it means you've got a very firm safety net and source of additional income to fund the business if the early days are rough. But, of course, when you do have a full time job it can be a little hard to dedicate time to your own endeavours. After a hard day's work you just want to relax rather than sitting down to do some more hard work, even if it is something you’re passionate about. So some days, you might struggle to find the motivation to work.

If you do find that motivation is an issue for you sometimes, have you considered creating a work schedule for yourself? If you make the promise to yourself that you will always work on your business at certain times throughout the week, you'll begin to feel a sense of obligation. It would be a good idea to set targets which you can easily make and choose the times which you know you'll have the most energy and be the most motivated; that way you're more likely to be able to stick to it at first and once you've been doing it for a while, you won't want to let a rough day get in your way in future.

Obviously, you need to handle the orders as and when they come up, but it would be good to designate different duties to different days. For example, when it comes to content marketing, people like it when blogs are kept to a regular schedule as it gives them a time that they should always check back, so one day of the week you might always write a blog post. There are lots of things which need to be taken into account and you could do a little bit of work on your eCommerce website every day, but it could be small ten minute tasks on days when you're least likely to be motivated (Mondays, for example) and larger tasks on weekends. Whatever works best for you!

But if you don't have an eCommerce website yet, why not sign up to Sellr now? It is free to use and hopefully making the kind of schedule described in this blog post will be just what you need to get your business off the ground!
