Set Up Your Domain Through Namecheap

If you've got a solid business idea and you want to start up your own eCommerce website, it's very possible that you might like to buy your own domain. Having your own domain is a great way to make your site look professional and to have people take it just a little bit more seriously as a business. One popular choice for webhosting is Namecheap and in this blog post I'm going to talk about choosing your domain name and using it for your Sellr store.

Choosing the name of your domain is actually a very important decision and you should put a lot of thought into it. You might think that it would be good just to use your name for your domain, but this is actually quite a bad idea as people would then be less likely to come across it in search engines. The same is true of when you just input your company name. The best thing to do is to go with your company name, but to add a word or two that describe the product as well. If your business was called Slice Slice and you sold antique knives, a good domain would be because that way, somebody searching for antique knives is more likely to find you.

So, anyway, once you've decided on your domain name and purchased it, this is how you use it for your Sellr store. When you're logged in on Namecheap, go to 'Menu' and then click on 'Manage Domains'. Find the domain that you want to use for your Sellr store and click on 'Edit Selected >>'. After this you need to click on 'All Host Records'. In the 'www' row, you need to change the ‘IP Address/URL’ box to your current Sellr store URL and change the 'Record Type' to 'CNAME (Alias)'. Once you've done this, you're finished on the Namecheap website.

Now you just need to head back here, to Sellr and log in to your account. If you go to the 'Website' tab and then click 'Website Domain Name' you'll find all of the next steps which need to be taken. It should be fairly straightforward but don't hesitate to get in touch with us if you have any problems! You can contact us via email at or over the telephone on 01225 422200.
