Skyscraping Content
Content marketing is a fantastic way for you to increase traffic to your website, but there are lots of different content marketing methods to be aware of. On the one hand, there's the most common form of content marketing where you write lots of blog posts or articles on your website so that you'll have lots of different keywords covered and therefore pop up in lots of different internet searches. But one thing that's also worth trying is getting your content onto other websites to increase the number of links back to your own site (which is good for search algorithms.) One particular method is called "skyscraping content" and I'd like to explain that in today's blog post.
The pieces of content you write should cement you as an expert in your industry. You can share important information and make it clear that you know your stuff. So, imagine you were selling gardening supplies, then you'd write a lot of posts on advanced gardening techniques. That's simple enough and here's what you'd do if you wanted to do a bit of skyscraping with a piece of content like this. If you have a quick search online, you'll be able to find big, comprehensive pieces of content related to your business's industry. To use the gardening example, there are probably pieces like "the ultimate guide to gardening" and they'll be thousands and thousands of words long. These pieces of content will be ranking very highly on search engines and so what you want to try and do is get your content to replace it. Write an even more comprehensive guide: cover more advanced subjects but in a more accessible way and include the most up to date information possible. Once this is finished to the highest possible standard, email the owners of the sites with high ranking content, tell them you love their content but then say that you've got a piece which covers even more than theirs and ask if they'd like to have yours instead - then in an "about the author" section you'd include a link to your own website! Either that, or you'd fit one into the main body of the text.
That's a little bit of a long explanation, but I hope that helps to show you just one of the ways that you can get your content posted onto other people's websites. Doing this will boost rankings of your own website which will then hopefully increase traffic and get you more sales! But if you don't yet have an eCommerce website, then sign up to Sellr now and get started for no cost at all.
