When to Hire More Staff

By Adam  |  21 Aug 2015 15:00:00

Do you have a one person business? Perhaps you had an idea for a business in your mind and then came across Sellr. You thought it would be the perfect place to bring your business to life and so spent the next few days putting together your eCommerce website and getting your products together. Now you have a comfortable number of customers and are making some money. But is this sustainable? At the risk of sounding too negative, I do not think that it is.

When you first start your business you're doubtlessly going to be filled with boundless enthusiasm. The enthusiasm of the early days will mean that you'll have more energy to the work, but this enthusiasm will dwindle. I don't mean to say that you will care less about your business after a while, just that you are going to be more excited about things when you first start and that excitement will not necessarily last. That's not to mention that social media marketing and content marketing (both vital aspects of any marketing strategy) need as much time dedicated to them as things like the creation and mailing of the products. You’ll realise that is all too much for a single person to do properly.

So once you reach a certain level, you should really think about hiring somebody to work for you, or even just paying a friend for some help every now and then. It might feel strange to do so at first, since you started it all by yourself, but the extra help may well prove to be invaluable. Not only will you be able to get more done and reach more people, but a new person comes with new ideas; maybe they'll be able to suggest an idea for improvement which had never occurred to you? And if you don't like the idea, or think it is contrary to how you'd like to handle your business, then ignore them! It's your business after all.

But if you're still at the stage where you're one person who wants to start up their business idea, then why not sign up to Sellr now? You can make your eCommerce dream an eCommerce reality for no cost at all! And, later on, don’t be afraid to hire some employees.
