Write a Wikipedia Page
Wikipedia has grown considerably over the years and while academics consider it unreliable for research (and rightly so) it is still an extremely useful repository of information. If you find out the name of something and you want to find out more, what are you going to do? Well, you might search it on Google but then you might find it hard to know which page will provide you with the most useful information. So then you might search on Wikipedia: Wikipedia provides clear, easily digestible information about what things are and is generally a useful place to go if you want to know something.
So something you might like to consider is creating a Wikipedia page for your business. Don't get me wrong, Wikipedia is not a marketing tool and this will not help you to reach new people. However, it is still very useful to have one. Why? Well, when a new person finds your eCommerce website they might like the look of it, however, they might also be a cautious. Though the internet is full of lots of good things, it also has its fair share of scammers and con artists. If you find an eCommerce website which you've never come across before then it would be reasonable for you to want to be sure that it is legitimate. How would you find this out? Well, one of the most likely options would be to search for the business on Wikipedia. Seeing that you have a Wikipedia page will offer reassurance and show them that you can be trusted.
However, one thing you need to keep in mind before you start working on your business's Wikipedia page is that they have a notability policy. Everything you say about your website needs to be sourced and you would not be able to use your own website or blog as a source either. So, before you can have a Wikipedia page you'll need to have had a few other publications covering you. One common method for doing this is approaching other businesses on social media or via email and asking if they'd like to blog about you in return for you blogging about them. It can often prove to be quite a useful form of cross-promotion.
So, anyway, I hope that shows you how useful Wikipedia can be and why it might be a good idea to make yourself a Wikipedia page for your eCommerce website. But if you don't even have an eCommerce website yet, why not sign up to Sellr now and create one for no cost at all?
